Enviroment

Environment, the countryhouse is located in the wide nature of Winterswijk with perfect view on the former railway to Borken (Germany). This railway offers perfect growing ground and breeding ground for a high diversity of flora and fauna.

Some suggestions and tips worthwile to visit and see:

Biking
The surrounding area of Winterswijk offers excellent opportunities to bike. There are several routes especially worthwile to do by bike, like `Buurtschappenroute`,Àrfgoedroute`, and many more pleasnt and interesting routes to experience. `Rental bikes Houwers`, Wooldseweg 76 tel: 00 31 5 43 56 42 81 or 00 31 5 43 56 45 42 is always willingly to help you selecting the best bike in each situation.

 

Horseriding
The long sandy paths offer excellent opportunities to make beautiful horse trips and see the environment. Our countryhouse is close to all bridle paths and riding routes. We also offer accommodations for horses.

 

Hiking and Walking
For hikers, this area is a true paradise with nice and diverse tours and routes to do, e.g. `Scholtenpad`, `Noaberpad`, etcetera. And of course, if you would like to bring your dog(s), they`re as welcome as you are!

 

Golfing
At a short distance (appr. 5 km.) there is a lovely 9h. golf court `de Voortwisch`, which soon will be upgraded to 18 holes.

 

Swimming
Close to our countryhouse there are two natural pools,`Hilgelo` and `Slingeplas`, both pool are within 15 minutes autodrive. Indoor pools are also close to our accommodation.

 

Scenic areas under nature conservation
Winterswijk`s green surroundings are protected, worthwile areas to visit are`Bekendelle,`,` Het Buskersbos`,` Korenburgerveen` etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stone quarries
Winterswijk is in the Netherlands also famous for its stone quarries an due to the composition of the soil bears its name `mosaic floor of the Netherlands`. Nowhere else but here, sediments are coming to the surface and or are close to the surface. Next to that, the sediments are sediments of so many varied geological  eras.

Musea
In Winterswijk there is the `Mondiaanhuis`, dedicated to the work of the famous artist Mondriaan. There is also the `Museum Freriks`, a museum with art and regional history and customs of `de Achterhoek`, the area of Winterswijk. In Bredevoort, the famous bookcity, there are many galleries with antique books and history.

Mills
Winterswijk area still preserves varied water- en windmills, e.g. `Berenschot watermill`, `Den Helder watermill`, and some still functioning mills like `Venemansmolen windmill`and `Meenkmolen windmill`. All mills are to be visited.

Restaurants
Next to common restaurants like Italian, Greek or Chinese restaurants, Winterswijk also has 1 top-restaurant, namely`Stad Munster`. Within a short drive there are three restaurants,` De Gulle Waard` ,`Berenschot` en De Woord.
